Well-known building company Kier Construction has started working on a scheme for a new office complex for Waveney District Council and Suffolk County Council in Lowestoft, a news report in the local media has revealed.
Construction work will take just over a year before a handover in March 2015 ahead of occupation. The build involves the construction of a brand new two and three-storey building, complete with conference rooms and public café on the ground floor, workstation areas to the upper floors and an external terrace area.
Building a single complex for the local authorities will actually save taxpayers money on the long run, since the new building on Riverside Road will reduce energy and maintenance costs for the two councils and is part of a wider accommodation programme, which will also bring staff from both councils together at a redeveloped customer service centre in the heart of the town. As a result of this move, the cost to taxpayers will drop by up to £3m across the next 10 years.
Since we’re talking about a building complex designed specifically to host local government authorities, the need for a solid and reliable access control system becomes quite stringent, and this is specifically where Access Control UK will be able to put its experience to very good use.
Our high-end access control solution employs a variety of access control technologies, including here RFID, to create advanced solutions, enable users to exert solid, reliable and accurate control over the access to specific premises or zones.

The consumerisation of biometrics authentication and security solutions will be largely driven by the adoption of mobile solutions, market research company Goode Intelligence has predicted.
Within its new series of Market Intelligence reports, Goode Intelligence predicts that the next stages of consumer biometrics will create solutions that are more intelligent and seamless with the technology that they are being deployed to, which includes embedding fingerprint sensors within touch screens and touch pads.
Positioning the fingerprint sensor underneath, or within the touch screen enables mobile device Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to remove physical buttons. It also retains the convenient method of touching a finger on the front of a mobile device for identification.
Goode Intelligence reports that the growth in biometrics, especially in the consumer space, will be limited if services are not successfully linked to the biometric access control sensor. It believes that this can be achieved and there are positive signs that the enabling underlining infrastructure to support biometrics is being prepared for large-scale adoption.
